Eppendorf Tubes® 5.0 mL
Not all consumables are created equal!
Substances which are released from plastic consumables (leachables) may have an influence on laboratory experiments. When they absorb light in the UV range they can disrupt DNA and protein quantifications. The Eppendorf Tube 5.0 mL is manufactured without the use of slip agents, plasticizers and biocides –substances that have been shown to affect bio–assays and laboratory measurements– and thus offers a safe alternative for sample preparation and storage. Graph: Shown are UV absorbance spectra of pure water incubated (30 min. 90 °C) in tubes from different manufacturers. Data shown in the diagram were generated with 5.0 mL snap cap format – for additional information and protocol description please see Application Note 264.
The 5.0 mL system
50 years ago Eppendorf launched the microliter system consisting of 1.5 ml tubes, Thermomixer, microcentrifuge and Eppendorf pipettes. With the same concept in mind we developed the 5.0 mL system. To make your lab routines faster and easier, we are offering the system components to go hand–in–hand with the Eppendorf Tube 5.0 mL:
› Eppendorf Tubes 5.0 mL
› Tube rack and storage box
› Thermoblocks for Eppendorf Thermomixer
› 5 mL pipettes (manual and electronic) and epTIPS – High–speed rotors for Eppendorf centrifuges
› A range of universal centrifuge adapters for use in existing rotors
› Adapters for use in epMotion automated workstation
Application benefits:
› Easier processing of samples up to 5.0 mL;
› Higher yields in DNA isolation, especially with samples with limited quantity of source material (see Application Notes 262 and 263)
› Convenient and safe cell culture applications
› Easier sample access lowers the risk of contamination
› Preparation of mastermixes and buffers
› Less storage space needed
› Safe cell and tissue lysis Graph: Higher yields in DNA isolation–plasmid DNA yields can be significantly increased with low–copy plasmids by increasing the culture volume to 5 mL. The Eppendorf Tube 5.0 mL allows to conduct DNA purification safely and contamination–free, without dividing samples among several smaller tubes.
